Hello, my name is Kelsey Zuniga. I am 22 years old and I am one of the personal trainers here at Pure Energy Fitness. Growing up, I have always been the active one in my family, pushing my four brothers to stay in sports and 'eat healthy'. Junior High was when my passion for fitness really took off. The competitive aspect of sports is what I loved the most. Back then, running was my forte. I had even qualified for the Junior Olympics that was being held in Detroit, Michigan back in 2007. But as I continued running through the next couple of years, it took its toll on my knees. My doctor recommended that I strengthen the muscles around it to help with my recovery, thus getting me into weight lifting. During high school, I switched from track to powerlifting. Weight lifting wasn't new to me but competing in the sport was. I also joined the Athletic training program that my high school offered where I learned the basics of sports injury rehabilitation and recovery. Having been involved in this program all throughout high school I began to wanting to pursue it as a profession. I visited campuses and spoke to head Athletic trainers from several colleges and I found out that the profession I was looking for remained on the sidelines for a sports team; but I wanted more. I wanted to be able to help more than just athletes and be more of an influence on my community rather than just for a single all-star athlete. Now, I am currently enrolled in Del Mar College, and am pursuing my career of choice in personal training. I've also been able to be a part of the new training staff that we have available here at Pure Energy Fitness. I have a unique style of training. It involves a lot of resistance workouts, and depending on the fitness levels of my clients I love to incorporate different techniques to better suit ones needs and goals. My aim is to focus on all-around flexibility and functionality of the body. Whether someone has medical concerns, previous injuries, or weak areas accommodations can always be made to make improvements and do my best to help with recovering in those areas. My goal is to help everyday people make a change in their life for the better when it comes to personal health and to help people to learn to love themselves and their body more.
